I wish I was Evening Mum

When the kids are finally down for the night, I become a different type of mum. The sort I wish I was all of the time.

I become Evening Mum.

Evening Mum is kind. Evening Mum is chilled. Evening Mum has infinite patience. She never shouts. She doesn’t grumble. She even finds it quite amusing that you lay on the floor in the shop earlier today. She appreciates you ALL of the time. She plans out fun things we can do the next day. She wants to creep into your room and kiss your tiny cute noses. Evening Mum NEVER plays on her phone in front of you. She sometimes cries that Daytime Mum doesn’t always act like her. On the other hand, Evening Mum does have the super ability of hindsight and she doesn’t really give Daytime Mum much of a break.

In the morning, Daytime Mum arises and though she still loves you so much it hurts, she is at times, a little less patient, a little bit grumpier and doesn’t always follow through on Evening Mum’s carefully laid-out plans. She doesn’t always see the funny side of spilled drinks and tantrums. She does strongly suspect however, that maybe Evening Mum is just better at it because she gets a break (so maybe Evening Mum should just do one). What Daytime Mum DOES do, is to endeavour to be a little better at it the next day, to try a little harder and play a little longer and so maybe, just maybe, Daytime Mum and Evening Mum will eventually merge into one.

  5. I love evening mom. She's so inspiring! I definitely have a hard time finding tantrums funny during day *cough* morning *cough*. But as long as we aim a little higher every day, we're doing our job to the best of our ability.

  6. My evening mum is an absolutely bitch! Daytime mum is happy and friendly and playful. evening mum is so overtired, grumpy and ratty! I had a go at hubbby last night for throwing away a Chinese menu that I had used once in 3 years! #twinklytuesday

  7. I am so with you on this! But then to be fair my Evening Mum self gets to sit on her backside with a cuppa in front of the fire giggling at the days events and watching Netflix. My Daytime Mum self has to run around in circles after two fractious tots that are generally demanding all of the things and apparently needing wiping at all times. Personally I think Daytime Mum gets a tough deal and Evening Mum needs to cut her some slack and leave a few biscuits out for her or something? Great post. Thanks for sharing with #DreamTeam x

  8. So true! I'm lucky now that my daughter is older and started to play alone and have less tantrums so evening Mum is often about during the day. It's a much nicer feeling eh? xx #twinklytuesday

  10. I wish I could be evening mum, or even evening wife sometimes. Being a Special Needs mum means that I'm every single minute of every single day mum which can turn me into a tired, grumpy mum & wife xx #TwinklyTuesday

  11. I wish I was an evening mum too! I'm not very good at being calm and organised although it is something I am working on this year. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I've been poorly recently, so that means all i've really been is a tired, poorly, cuddly mum instead! #bestandworst

  14. I'm so with you on this! I have two boys - aged 5 and 5 months - and I feel horrible than I long for the oldest to go to bed so I can be a sort of Evening Mum and just play and cuddle with the little one! #marvmondays x
